About
Meet Anna Simpson
Certified sound practitioner and massage therapist in Sacramento, California.
How I got here
In 2018 I went to a sound bath. I had heard about them, I was curious, and I did not really know what I was walking into.
The experience was transformational. I came out of it knowing I had to be sharing this. I wanted everyone I loved to feel as good as I felt in that room.
The ocean drum was the standout instrument for me. I had to have one.
This was not an obvious next step. I was married to a musician. My daughter is a professional musician. I had always assumed I was on the listening side of things, that playing instruments in front of other people was not for me. But once I understood what these instruments could do, playing them stopped being optional. I had to play them because I had to help others through them.
In 2018 nobody in Sacramento was teaching this work, so I went where the teaching was. I found a mentor in Brooklyn, Sara Auster, and completed her ASM Sound Bath Practitioner Training Level 3. I trained in gong and sound bath work in Los Angeles with Jamie Bechtold at the Sound Bath Center. A few years later I took up the Native American flute with Christine Stevens.
I keep learning. I recently bought a hand pan drum and am teaching myself to play it. When I travel, I look for interesting and unusual instruments I can bring back and share with clients. Some of what I know I learned from teachers. Some of it I taught myself. Both feel essential to the work.
What I do now
I work as a certified massage therapist and a sound practitioner. Alongside my public sessions, private bookings, and corporate wellness work, I also lead sound sessions for people in drug and alcohol recovery. That work has taught me a great deal about what a nervous system can hold, and what it can release, that I would not have learned anywhere else.
The work so far
Nearly 30 years in the healing arts. More than 500 sound bath events led, across recurring monthly public sessions, corporate wellness programs, retreats, festivals, and intimate private gatherings.
